Social Media Networks & Links Juice/Power

April 25th, 2009

Social medias have become an important part on getting traffic and ranking high online. But some social media networks might actually not pass enough link juice to you or none at all.
here is a list of some of those social media sites:

The following social media sites don’t pass link juice:

  • Twitter (NoFollow links)
  • YouTube ( NoFollow links)
  • MySpace (all links use redirects to prevent spam)
  • Wikipedia (NoFollow links)
  • Delicious (NoFollow links)
  • Yahoo Answers (uses No Follow)

Here are some exceptions:

  • LinkedIn (Links in main profile are OK)
  • Flickr (Links in main profile are OK; Links under pictures use NoFollow)
  • Digg (Article titles pass link juice)
  • Facebook (Links in blog feeds/posted items are OK; Links in main profile/comments use NoFollow)

Most social media sites tend to use Nofollow to avoid spamming, but it does not mean those sites links are useless, it actually means links coming from those sites might have little or not affect at all for your ranking on search engines. As you might notice some nofollow links also bring visitors to your site if well located.
