I know many of you and even myself tend to forget to renew domain names till the last renewal day or we just leave our domains on auto renew, but from the SEO side it is actually a really bad habit that we all should avoid committing.
Most search engines as Google, Yahoo, Msn and many others actually check the registration and expiration dates of domain names and from this they might judge your commitment to your web business, so even without knowing it you could be penalized by search engines because of your domain expiration date, be careful otherwise your sites might have trouble getting pages indexed or ranking higher on the Serp specially near expiration dates. So it is actually recommended to renew domain names with several years in advance, two of three years won’t put you on the streets but will surely help you get seen by search engines as a serious and committed web owner.
